Warner Bros has announced that actor Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Professor Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter series. Originally appearing in the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone , Davis's character underwent a significant transformation in appearance between the first two films. In the initial installments directed by Chris Columbus, Flitwick had a long white beard and wore a green robe, while in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban directed by Alfonso Cuarón, he appeared with short brown hair and a three-piece suit.
This marks the first instance of an original film actor returning to the series to reprise their role. New actors have been cast for the characters of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, who will be portrayed from their first year at Hogwarts to their confrontation with Voldemort. The series has also cast new actors for other roles due to the passing of some original actors. For example, John Lithgow will portray Dumbledore, originally played by Michael Gambon, and Nick Frost will take on the role of Hagrid, previously held by Robbie Coltrane.
